Gus Teixeira, M.D., M.Ed.

Athlete Bio

Gus is a dedicated age-group triathlete and dual‑citizen team member for both Team USA and Brazil AG. Gus combines elite-level endurance with academic excellence. A former child and adolescent psychiatrist, he earned his M.D. and M.Ed. degrees before shifting gears into multisport competition.

Since taking up triathlon, Gus has amassed more than 20 podium finishes, including multiple State Championship titles and national-level medals. In the 2024 Pan‑American Masters Games, he earned gold in the Sprint Triathlon (45–49 AG) with a time of 1:16:40.

His standout 2024 season featured top-three finishes at major events like the Key Biscayne Triathlon (1st), Las Olas Triathlon (2nd), Louisiana State Champs (3rd), U.S.A. Draft Legal Nationals (3rd), Montana State Champs (1st), and Idaho State Champs (1st overall).

Gus is known for bringing mental grit, consistency, and academic rigor to every start line, inspiring fellow athletes with his story of transformation — from medicine to multisport triumph.

Community Engagement

Beyond racing, Gus Teixeira is deeply committed to community engagement, using his platform to inspire and support others through sport. He volunteers at local youth triathlon clinics, mentors aspiring athletes, and advocates for mental health awareness—drawing from his background in child and adolescent psychiatry. Gus also promotes inclusivity in endurance sports by supporting initiatives that increase access for underrepresented groups, believing that triathlon can be a powerful vehicle for personal growth, resilience, and connection.
